Last steps for major project

A planned weekend closure of a road near Uttoxeter has been postponed.

Work had been scheduled on the A522 north of the A50, between the new roundabout and JCB World Parts Centre, from this Friday night (30th) to early on Monday, December 3rd.

Mark Winnington, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet member for Jobs and Growth, said:

Early digging near the JCB entrance has revealed more preparatory work needs doing before we can tie in the A522 carriageway with the upgraded A50 junction.

We’ll get that sorted as quickly as possible and then announce revised closure dates.”

Plans to lift roadworks by the Shell garage on New Road, Uttoxeter, will go ahead as planned this weekend. Traffic will be able to travel freely in both directions from 5pm on Friday, November 30th to 9.30am on Monday, December 3rd.

The roadworks by the Shell garage will be reinstated for the final time on the morning of December 3rd to finish installation of ducting and cabling and the work is scheduled to be complete by the afternoon of Friday, December 7th when the road will be permanently reopened in both directions.

Mark Winnington added:

This has been a major piece of work to install a new bridge, demolish the old one and build three new roundabouts and slip roads to improve safety and boost the local economy.

We’re at the very final stages now of resurfacing and tying in the new roads with existing carriageways and it will all be finished very soon. I would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding.”

On Monday, December 10th the A522 will be closed to all traffic in both directions west of Tunnicliffe Way, near The Parks. The closure will last from 9.30am on the 10th until 4pm on Friday, December 14th while surfacing work is carried out. Tunnicliffe Way residents travelling towards the town centre will be able to turn right along New Road.
