Find out about a career in children’s services at recruitment day

People interested in a career helping children and young people are being invited to a recruitment open day where they can find out more.

Staffordshire County Council’s Families First service is behind the event which aims to recruit new social workers across the county to work with vulnerable children and young people.

The event will take place on Wednesday 25 January at Marmion House, Lichfield Street in Tamworth from 10am to 4pm.

People will get the chance to browse the ‘Market Place’ where departments will be showcasing the variety of areas of social work within the Families First service.  There will also be an opportunity to talk to social workers and staff over a coffee to find out more about a career in children’s services.

Mark Sutton, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People at Staffordshire County Council said:

“Children’s Social workers play a vital role in helping to keep vulnerable young people safe and secure, promote their well-being and to help them achieve their full potential.

“Our Families First Service has a wide range of job vacancies available with excellent career opportunities along with great training and professional development. And, as a role that is hugely rewarding, you’ll see first-hand, the real positive impact you can have on young people’s lives.

Staffordshire County Council’s Families First service is rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted  with a strong record of keeping children safe, while supporting and helping staff develop their skills. Those embarking on a career with the service can expect high quality, regular supervision and second to none training making sure they have the tools to do their job both confidently and competently.

A recent Families First staff satisfaction survey also reported that three quarters of people said that they had had personal development time with their line managers and that they felt that they were well supported to do their job.
