Summer graduation to recognise county’s apprentices

With just over a month to go to the Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Apprenticeship Graduation Ceremony, apprentices and employers are being urged to book their place.

Now in its fourth year, the graduation ceremony on the 18th July at the County Showground in Stafford will celebrate the achievements of the county’s higher and advanced apprentices.

Apprentices completing their training will have the chance to celebrate with their training providers, employers and family and friends.

Philip White, Cabinet Member for Learning and Employability at Staffordshire County Council is now urging the county’s apprentices to book their place and have their day on the stage.

Philip said:

“This is always a great event that recognises the huge achievements of our apprentices.  Apprenticeships are key to Staffordshire’s growth and prosperity and, like university graduates; it’s only fair that apprentices get their day on the stage too”.

“We also want our local employers to join us to recognise the fantastic contributions that apprenticeships are bringing to their companies.”

David Frost CBE, Chairman of the Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Local Enterprise Partnership, which is backing the event, said:

“Apprenticeships are a key focus of our work to promote economic growth and bring more and better jobs to our region, and are giving many of our businesses the opportunity to grow their own talented and skilled workforce.

“Initiatives such as these graduation ceremonies that recognise the hard work and commitment of apprentices and help to raise the profile of apprenticeships are very welcome.”

Apprenticeships play a vital role in growing Staffordshire’s economy and last year over 8,000 people started an apprenticeship, which is doubled that of five years ago.  Despite the increase, more apprenticeship opportunities are needed to meet the demand from young people who are keen to work and learn and take the first step to a good career. More higher level apprenticeships are especially needed to meet demand for progression opportunities.

Apprentices can register by visiting www.GraduationCeremony.co.uk and selecting Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Apprenticeship Graduation.  People can also find out more information on the event Facebook page or by emailing apprenticeship.graduation@staffordshire.gov.uk .
