Hundreds of children raced through the grounds of Shugborough Hall today as they took part in the Staffordshire Ironkids event.
On the day before the main IRONMAN 70.3 Staffordshire event, a series of races saw children between the ages of three and 14 cover distances from 500 metres to 2.5km. The fun started at 3pm and despite a cloudy sky, the rain stayed away.
Staffordshire County Council’s Mark Winnington said:
It’s been great to see so many young people racing through Shugborough today and completing their run at the main IRONMAN 70.3 Staffordshire finish. Thankfully the weather stayed fine and everyone had an enjoyable time. Ironkids is a wonderful way to start to start what will be another memorable weekend for Staffordshire. It was pleasing to see Staffordshire children joined by those from across the country who were with competitors for the event tomorrow. Ironkids enables us to showcase Staffordshire and encourage children of all ages and abilities to get involved in sport in a fun environment.
Among the adults accompanying the younger children around the 500 metre course was the deputy leader of the county council Ian Parry. The IRONMAN 70.3 Staffordshire Expo saw hundreds of athletes registering for tomorrow’s event, which starts at 7am with the swim at Chasewater.
