People from across Staffordshire are being given the chance to help shape the future of their local libraries service.
A series of drop-in events are being held across the county throughout December to give people the opportunity to get involved in early discussions about the county’s libraries.
Feedback from the informal drop-in events will help develop the proposals that will be consulted on in the New Year. The consultation will help the service plan ahead for the next three years.
Gill Heath, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet member for Communities, said:
“Staffordshire’s library service is very important to us all, but the way people are reading and finding out information is changing all the time and we must change with it to make sure we continue to meet people’s needs.
“Our libraries continue to be the hubs of local communities providing access to books and information as well as lots of different activities and services. Over the last three years we have reshaped the service in Staffordshire without closing any of our 43 libraries and we’ve done this by consulting with library users, staff and the wider public. We’ve also helped put the community in the driving seat with 23 community-managed libraries up and running or in the process of transferring over.
“The drop-in coffee mornings are another great opportunity for people to get involved and I would encourage them to go along and have their say on how their local library can be improved for the future.”
As well as making greater use of technology and New ‘out-of-hours’ options, other proposals for the service being explored include, increasing the number of community managed libraries and reviewing how the mobile and travelling service is used.
The drop-in events will take place from 10am until 12 noon at the following libraries:
Lichfield Library, 28 November
Burton Library, 1 December
Tamworth Library, 5 December
Leek Library, 6 December
Perton Library, 7 December
Cannock Library, 12 December

Stafford Library, 19 December
