Over 100 nominations have been received for the inaugural People’s Business Award in Burton since its launch last week.
Burton residents are being urged to nominate their favourite local business for a new award which recognises great customer service in their community.
The People’s Business Award is part of the county council’s Get Vocal About Local campaign. The award is being run in conjunction with Burton Small Business – a consortium of local businesses that organises events to promote and support small companies and the self-employed in their home town.
One of its founder members, Elaine Pritchard of Caittom Publishing Limited, said:
We’re excited to be putting the power in the hands of local people to nominate their favourite business in town to be the winner of the People’s Business Award.
The business that wins, and the two runners-up, will get some great publicity to kick start their new year and I know they will feel that it’s extra special to have been nominated by their own customers. So please make sure a business you love is in there with a chance to win by nominating them online before entries close on December 28.”
Any business can be nominated – people just need to say why it has provided top customer service. It may be that the business prides itself on supporting the local community, goes further for its customers or is long established in the town.
The winner of the People’s Business Award and two highly commended businesses will be chosen in the new year by a panel of local experts and then be showcased in the week beginning January 8.
People can vote by visiting www.staffordshire.gov.uk/getvocalaboutlocal or by social media using the hashtag #GetVocalAboutLocalBurton
Anyone nominating one of the top three businesses will be entered into a draw with a chance to win some great local prizes. The top prize for a nominee of the winning business is a voucher for two for The Dial restaurant, a voucher for two for The Winery and a £50 Cineworld voucher.
Two people nominating one of the highly commended businesses will each receive a hamper of local products worth at least £90 each and a local restaurant voucher. All nominations need to be in by midnight next Thursday December 28.
The Get Vocal About Local Burton campaign was launched last month and aims to promote the town’s traders by encouraging people to shop, eat and spend leisure time there.
Staffordshire County Council cabinet support member and local county councillor Philip White said:
It has been rewarding to see how much the people of Burton value local businesses through our Get Vocal About Local campaign. We know these businesses play a valuable role in their communities and offer great customer service.
The People’s Business Awards gives those businesses the recognition they deserve. Through the awards we can also continue to champion local business by urging people to let others know about their favourite shop or eatery. They can also win some excellent locally sourced prizes.”
Prizes have been provided by county council highways partner Amey, which is carrying out essential repairs of Burton’s St Peter’s Bridge.
