Part of the A522 near Uttoxeter will be closed this weekend to complete a new stretch of the A-road.
It is scheduled to be closed completely from 3am Saturday 25th March, until 5am on Monday 27th, between the junction of Tunnicliffe Way, Uttoxeter, and the main entrance to JCB World Parts. The eastbound A50 junction at this point will also be closed.
The work is to allow the integration of 300 metres of new carriageway on the A522, just north of the A50.
Once it’s complete the realignment will create space for the work to begin on constructing the north side embankment of the new bridge over the A50 and keep the A522 flowing during construction.
Access to The Parks restaurant and Tunnicliffe Way will be maintained at all times from the south of the A50, as will access to JCB World Parts from the A522 from the north.
Mark Winnington, Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for Economic Growth, said:
We’ve planned this to minimise disruption as much as possible both in the short and long term and I’d like to thank people in advance for their patience and understanding.”
A diversion route will be clearly signposted along A-roads so that it is suitable for all forms of traffic, including HGVs.
Once the realigned A522 reopens the 30mph speed limit will be supported by speed cameras to maintain safety for the public and workforce in the area. Signs will be installed warning about the safety cameras and other signs will be in place to alert drivers to the new alignment.
