Staffordshire’s gritting teams, aided by snow ploughs and snow blowers, will be working throughout the day to clear blocked roads.
The teams have been on continual gritting runs throughout the week, though yesterday and overnight increasingly strong winds have caused snow to drift causing major problems on the roads.
They are working at the moment to clear roads which in the south of the county include:
A34 Pottal Pool to Bednall near Cannock
A449 Dunston near Penkridge
C6 (A5 to Codsall Road)
Teddesley Road Penkridge
Wheaton Aston to Church Eaton
Bursnips Road Essington
B5012 Cannock to Penkridge
Lower Penkridge Road
Blundies Lane Kinver
C130 Cannock Road (to Chadsmoor)
A515 Station Road Lichfield
Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet support member for highways and transport Helen Fisher said:
“Our highways teams are out now working to unblock roads across the county which have been hit by drifting snow. This is a difficult job and so we’d ask people to bear with us while they’re at work. The crews have been out continuously and we’re hoping by the weekend to see an improvement in conditions.
“We are still advising people only to travel if absolutely necessary and to drive with extra care of they need to do so.”
