Gritting teams out countywide overnight to keep Staffordshire moving

Staffordshire’s gritting teams were in action again throughout the night and early this morning as freezing conditions continued and with snowfall forecast later today.

Motorists are being urged to drive with extra care, even where roads have been gritted.

Helen Fisher, cabinet support member for highways and transport said:

The gritting teams were out again from 11pm last night and first thing this morning, doing all they can to keep the county moving.

We’re expecting snow later this morning and will be monitoring conditions throughout the day and into the evening. We’re expecting the teams to be very busy all week.

The snow and ice will bring some hazardous driving conditions and so we would again ask people to take extra care when they are out and about and allow additional time for their journey.”

Schools will contact parents directly if they intend to close at any point this week. A list of closures can be found on the county council’s website and searching for ‘school closure list’, or by clicking www.staffordshire.gov.uk/schoolclosure and following the instructions.
