Gritting crews work round the clock on Staffordshire’s roads

Gritters have been working day and night throughout the weekend as the region experienced one of its heaviest snowfalls for some time.

Staffordshire’s fleet of more than 40 gritters were out again today, some with ploughs attached, as the forecast heavy snow arrived.

Helen Fisher, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet Support member for Highways and Transport, said:

Our crews have been working round the clock since Friday.

Saturday night and Sunday morning we were treating the roads in advance of the forecast snowfall and we’re out again today gritting, and ploughing too where needed.

We’re expecting the skies to clear tonight, though there may still be some snow showers, and there will be a high risk of ice as temperatures fall, so although we’re gritting people should definitely take care, only drive if necessary and respect the conditions.”
