Essential viaduct works set to take place

Essential maintenance works on the Tame Viaduct carrying River Drive in Tamworth are scheduled to take place next week.

The work to maintain the road joints is due to take place overnight next Thursday May 11 and overnight on Friday May 12. Both nights work will take place between 10pm and 6am. On Thursday night between these times, the westbound section will be closed from the hotel. The following night the eastbound section will be closed. If there is adverse weather or other issues, work may need to continue on Saturday night, May 13.

There will be a signed diversion route via Two Gates on the A5 and Fazeley. Pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be able to access through the works areas.

Staffordshire County Council’s head of highways James Bailey said:

River Drive is one of Tamworth’s main routes and so we will be carrying out this essential maintenance work overnight to minimise disruption. We would urge anyone travelling in this area next Thursday or Friday night to allow additional time for their journey. A signed diversion route will be in place while work is carried out. We’d like to thank people in advance for their patience.”
