It has been agreed that The Henry Prince school, Mayfield, will close by the end of August after it emerged that the school was only expecting between 10 and 15 pupils in September, despite having the capacity for 75.

Date scheduled for A522 work

A new date has been set for a weekend road closure near Uttoxeter.

Work on the A522, north of the A50 between the new roundabout and JCB World Parts Centre, is now planned from 8pm on Friday, January 25th until 5am on Monday, January 28th.

The A522 will be closed to all vehicles in both directions to allow some surface finishing off work to integrate part of the new junction with the A522 carriageway.

Pedestrian and bicycle access between Uttoxeter and JCB will be maintained throughout the weekend, but signposted diversions will be in place for all vehicles. Travelling from Uttoxeter, diverted traffic will join the A50 at the new junction, continue to Blythe Bridge and take the A521 to Tean and then the A522 towards Lower Tean and Checkley. Travelling to Uttoxeter the route is reversed.

Mark Winnington, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet member for Jobs and Growth, said:

I am delighted that this major piece of engineering is such a success and will deliver so many benefits, supporting the creation of new jobs and more homes locally, while cutting congestion and improving road safety.

As always, I’m grateful for people’s patience while the work is carried out.”

Other work scheduled in the area includes the overnight closure of the A50 between Blythe Bridge and Uttoxeter for five nights from Wednesday, January 16th to Sunday, January 20th inclusive.

The details are:

  • A50 closed overnight eastbound only on Wednesday, January 16th;
  • A50 closed overnight westbound only on Thursday, January 17th;
  • A50 closed overnight in both directions Friday, January 18th; Saturday, January 19th; Sunday, January 20th.

All closures will be from 8pm until 5.30am and take place between the B5030 roundabout at Uttoxeter and the A521 roundabout at Blythe Bridge.

Signposted diversions will be in place and the route will be the same for vehicles travelling in both directions. From the east, traffic will be diverted northwards from the A50 at Uttoxeter on to the B5030 for a few hundred yards to the roundabout with the A518. Traffic will turn right there, cross back over the A50 along The Dove Way and stay on the A518 clockwise around Uttoxeter and follow the road towards Stafford. Vehicles will then follow the A51 and A34 towards Stoke-on-Trent, before joining the A500 and then the A50 to Blythe Bridge. The route is reversed from the west.
