Changes to free bus pass travel

People are being reminded that changes to free bus pass travel (English National Concessionary Travel Scheme) are due to come into force from next spring in Staffordshire.

Residents will still be able to use their passes between 9.30am and 11pm and at any time at the weekend or on bank holidays – but will need to pay a fare if travelling outside these times. This is in line with national statutory guidelines for the concessionary travel scheme.

Helen Fisher, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said:

Rising costs of supporting both an increasing ageing population and growing numbers of children in our care means that we have had to look very carefully at what non-statutory areas we can continue to fund.

The changes will still mean people can travel for free after 9.30am and at any time on Saturday, Sunday or on bank holidays.”

People can find out more here and send their feedback by November 30 to  buspasscomments@staffordshire.gov.uk

Parents and students are also reminded that the Your Staffordshire Card will end on August 31, 2019. People can still use or by a card until that date. Further information is available here.
