Business leaders from across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent have hailed the UK Corporate Games as a real success, showcasing the area as a leading place for investment.
This was the second time the area was chosen to hold the national event, which is Europe’s biggest multisport games for business.
During the weekend over 4,000 competitors from over 60 companies battled it out in a packed schedule of sports.
National companies taking part included Lloyds Banking Group, Eversheds, Willis Towers Watson, and Brose. Wades Ceramics, Bet365, Stone Group, Aspire Housing and Staffordshire Police were amongst the local organisations joining in.
As well as the sports action, and an expected £3m boost to the local economy, long term economic benefits are also expected as companies realise what the area has to offer.
Mark Winnington, cabinet member for economic growth at Staffordshire County Council said that the Games had been a real success and like last time, were a wonderful opportunity to showcase the many investment opportunities available in the area.
“Once again we were delighted to be chosen to host the Games which has given us a unique opportunity to welcome top UK firms and give them a taste of what Staffordshire has to offer.
“It was also great to see so many of our own local companies and partners taking part too, and I hope they got the chance to meet new contacts and clients as well as joining in the fun.”
Stoke-on-Trent City Council cabinet member for greener city, development and leisure Anthony Munday said:
“This is the second time Stoke-on-Trent has jointly hosted the games with Staffordshire and we are very pleased to showcased our city’s outstanding sporting facilities to major national companies. Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire is a serious contender for national and international events and has the infrastructure and ability to deliver. I’d like to congratulate all the competitors who took part and we are ready to welcome new businesses and investment into the city.”
Chief operating officer Michelle Vorel-Adams said:
“On behalf of the Corporate Games, I would like to say a sincere thanks to all of our partners, exhibitors, presenters, sponsors, Games Helpers and participants for making this year’s Games such a resounding success.
“We selected Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent again because we knew that the area had the perfect ingredients required to deliver a fabulous festival. Well, it didn’t disappoint! The Games were a fantastic success for everyone involved and definitely one of the best ever in the UK.
“The facilities and the venues were superb and most of them were very closely located. Furthermore, the entrants received a very warm welcome from the helpers, coordinators and the locals too. Our mission was to ensure that everyone left with a positive impression of the Games and of the region and we are extremely proud that we were able to achieve this.”
