A50 roadworks completed early

Tonight’s scheduled overnight closure of the A50 westbound at Uttoxeter is cancelled as the work has been completed ahead of schedule.

The westbound carriage was closed overnight from Monday to Thursday this week to take delivery of six steel beams, each 47 metres long, which will form part of a new bridge across the A50.

The A50 westbound was scheduled to be closed again tonight between 8pm and 5.30am, but there is no longer any need.

Mark Winnington, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet member for Economic Growth, said:

We scheduled the work to take place at night to minimise any inconvenience and I’m very pleased it’s been completed so quickly, safely and efficiently.”

The new bridge forms part of an upgraded junction with the A522 being delivered by Staffordshire County Council, on behalf of Highways England.

The A50 is the most important transport link between the East and West Midlands and the planned improvements will also benefit major employers and their employees between Staffordshire and Derbyshire, making journeys quicker, easier and safer.
